Description

The second semester of AP Studio Art is called “Concentration.” You can look on the CollegeBoard website for a definition of this. I decided to do my Concentration on a comic book because I am interested in Graphic Art and Film as possible careers. My original idea makes a lot more sense and would have a lot more explanation, but I had to abridge it significantly if I wanted to get more than one scene drawn. So sorry if it makes no sense; I was trying to tell a story while keeping it cinematic in style. Didn’t want a thousand bust shots, y’know?

The basic premise is a re-telling of Cain and Able. In this case the main characters are Kayne and Aib who are sister and brother, respectively. Kayne is a few years older than Aib, however. The story begins with an introduction to the kind of world they live in, depicting a mysterious man hiring two assassins to assassinate an alien woman. Soon you realize the narrator is Kayne, the protagonist. The next scene shows her and her copilot (who never got a name, FAIL) engaged in a space battle with the previously introduced Vvellan. Kayne finishes off another Vvellan ship sending the enemy forces into retreat. They head back to base where Kayne is greeted with shouts of victory and adulation. But she realizes quickly that the praise is directed to her younger brother, Aib.

Basically, Aib is the “golden boy,” with a charm and appeal that everyone loves, deserved or not. Kayne has a darkness about her that, though she is a loyal friend, doesn’t draw people in like Aib does. Aib is popular by default and receives praise for everything he does. He isn’t even egotistical about it because he is “perfect.” Kayne wants nothing more than to make her recently deceased father proud, but it seems no matter how hard she tries, Aib gets the glory.

The Council orders Officer Rigel to meet them in the Council Chambers. Because they both have the last name Rigel, they go together. The Council then basically hands the seat they father used to hold on the Council to Aib despite Kayne’s longer service and equally as stunning record. Kayne is furious and hurt beyond words.
--this is where I stopped drawing heh—
Obiviously, to follow the Biblical story, Kayne has to kill Aib. This happens in a kind of confusing way. Basically, the Council says that if the next battle, led by Aib, is successful, he will pretty much get the seat on the Council. Kayne reasons that if she can cause the battle to be unsuccessful, it gives her more time. During the battle, Aib requests her assistance in getting a Vvellan ship off him, but she hesitates. She loves her brother more than anything – he’s her only family left, but she doesn’t think he’s justly earned the Council seat. She hesitates. And in that split second, tragedy strikes, and her brother’s ship is destroyed. Kayne is in shock and they return to base.

So, it wasn’t consciously intentional, but it’s her fault her brother dies. The Council somehow finds out and Kayne is exiled from Raoli. She tells the Council that she will be killed if she ventures out of Council space and comes anywhere near the Vvellan. The Council agrees to strip her of any connection to the Septenary Council or Raoli; they give her a ship and she christens it “Genesis.”

SCSG stands for Septenary Council Ship – Genesis. Obviously the ship wouldn’t have SCS on it because that would betray her, but she names it Genesis.
